Task:
Optimize the people and the material flow at the construction sites around the world and design the industry-standard digital solution maintaining the lifting capacity
KONE Corporation is a global leader in elevator manufacturing. The company’s elevators are used worldwide in residential buildings, office buildings, skyscrapers, airports, cruise ships and so on. The operation of elevators plays a crucial role in the movement of people and goods, both in completed buildings and during the construction phase.
I designed a mobile-first service called SiteFlow for KONE, which enables real-time optimization of elevator operations during the construction phase. The application ensures smooth site operations by reserving sufficient lifting capacity at the right time for the right personnel and materials. The data generated by the application also allows construction sites to anticipate various capacity needs and pre-allocate the appropriate elevator capacity for different stages of the construction process.
In the SiteFlow project, I conducted user interviews, designed the service concept and validated it, crafted the user experience, user interface, and visual design of the application, and carried out user testing.
The application is in production use at nearly all leading construction companies in Finland, as well as in several other countries including the United Kingdom, Austria, France, Singapore, and Germany. SiteFlow was awarded 1st place in the 2024 Design Innovation Awards in the UK.
